About Me

Ghiath Al Mhitawi is a filmmaker, playwright, and dramaturge from Damascus, currently based in Berlin, Germany.

He trained in theatre at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus before studying Screenwriting and Dramaturgy at Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. His play The Final Return was staged at the Royal Court Theatre in London, while The Abyss was presented as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.

During his studies at Filmuniversität Babelsberg, he wrote and directed the short films Paein (2021) and Return (2022). As a screenwriter, he co-wrote the ZDF series Echt and the feature film Good News (2024), directed by Hannes Schilling, alongside other film and television projects in Germany and the Arab world.

He is currently in pre-production on his debut feature film, Dry Clouds, which he wrote and will direct.
